A recent tweet from the White House featuring President Donald Trump as Superman has sparked confusion and debate across social media. The post, clearly timed with the release of a new Superman movie, shows Trumpโs face edited onto the superheroโs body with the caption: โTHE SYMBOL OF HOPE. TRUTH. JUSTICE. THE AMERICAN WAY. SUPERMAN TRUMP.โ
While intended as a bold and attention-grabbing meme, the image was quickly met with criticism and mockery. Political opponents were quick to weigh in, including California Democrat Robert Garcia who sarcastically commented that Trump resembled Lex Luthor more than Superman.
Journalist Mehdi Hasan questioned the double standards in political media, pointing out the likely outrage had President Biden posted something similar. He noted that Trump often escapes scrutiny for behavior that would provoke backlash from others.
Social media users also expressed disbelief at the postโs tone and content, with some asking if it was real and comparing it to scenes from the satirical movie Idiocracy.
AI developer Mario Pawlowski highlighted the irony, noting that Superman was an immigrant hero, a stark contrast to Trumpโs policies and image.
Despite the backlash, the meme received strong support from Trump fans. Some called him a โlegendโ whoโs been unfairly targeted by investigations yet remains โuntouchable.โ
The meme rapidly went viral, racking up nearly 19 million views in under a day, while fueling heated political exchanges online.
